This is some really good information, esp. about the part where you should only put these heaters in work areas.

Recently, I was scoffed at for wanting to insulate my septic tank when I install it next summer. How much insulation is necessary for a septic tank?
==============================

An interesting point! The bacteria in a septic work best at 95f.
That is converting our toilet into carbon dioxide, methane and other gases, the more converted, the less compost remaining, the longer the time between costs of emptying.
The colder the ground, the slower the bacteria work, the quicker the build up, septics down in Florida work so much better, all other things being equal.
If you are going to do it, go for six inches and remember the sides are in contact with the ground as well. Heat from the bacteria moves sideways and down into the ground as well as up.
With most septic systems, the build up comes over winter, followed by grater activity during the summer, most septics empty a few inches over the summer.

Its nice to hear that this occurred. Could you please provide notes or powerpoint presentation slides for those who do not live in Fairbanks, but are very interested in this topic. I am researching indigeonous forms for SE Alaska Climate, that may have been similar to Kodiak.

I regret that AHFC did not submit a correction about this article sooner. Instead of the 200 participants cited, a total of 3,339 Alaskans have completed upgrades to their homes or built new 5*+ homes and received rebates under the Home Energy Rebate Program. The 18-month deadline to complete the work began expiring in November, and 70 percent of the initial applicants participated by completing work on their homes and applying for a rebate.

Currently, the program's funds are encumbered. Nearly 17,000 homeowners have had their initial energy rating, and AHFC has set aside enough funds to cover any rebates for which they may qualify. As the 18-month deadlines pass for each homeowner, any unused funds will roll back into the program, and AHFC will again dispatch raters to additional homeowners currently on the waitlist.

That's pretty awesome information. I did not know that 30 to 40 % humidity is optimal for the indoors...I live in Arizona and it's so dry out here, I am definitely getting a hygrometer to monitor my indoor humidy level

Thank you, Chancellor Rogers, a voice of reason! In the past few weeks, with the release of information revealing the manipulation of data that has been going on among British (and we can assume other) "global warming experts", we see something that many have suspected all along -- the theory of man-induced global warming has not been scientifically validated because anyone who had information unsupportive of the pro-global warming scientists' agenda ended up being defunded, ridiculed, marginalized, and ultimately shut out of the process. So much for "peer review" and "the scientific process". It would almost be laughable except for the fact that the purveyors of man-induced global warming are providing politicians with the very fodder they desire for instituting draconian measures which will allow for increased taxation (direct and indirect) and control over our lives to "fix" a problem that does not even exist. I'm all for alternate energy, simply to reduce our trade deficit and our dependence on foreign nations who have ill intentions for our future. And developing alternate energy sources simply makes long-term sense. But this business of deceitful "science", for the sake of pushing an agenda, will hopefully be exposed sufficiently that the liars and their agenda will come to full light. Perhaps the truth will set us free from a creeping tyranny.
