Using this logic, most people are limiting their choice with an oil furnace to oil, and a gas furnace to gas.

Can you imagine if everyone went to buy a 'woodlot', cut their own wood, transported it home, and burned it in the Winter.

Oh wait, that's exactly what people used to do, isn't it. And some people are qualified to do it, some have the woodlot already, some have a chainsaw, and know how to use it, and some already have an approved chimney.

Instead of 500 gallons of oil, I insulated a bit, and have managed three Winters using a pellet stove, and burned $800 dollars of pellets each year, with my house staying at 72 degrees, 24 hours a day, all Winter. I'm sort f enjoying my limited feeling !

John,

I asked this question of Charlie Deer this past weekend in Seward. Charlie was quite emphatic that he could configure a boiler to heat domestic hot water at a lower cost than an electric water heater. This may be a good conversation for you to have with Charlie.

A well informed reader called me and pointed out that I had not indicated whether the $15.00 Monthly customer charge was included in my cost analysis. Indeed it was not.

What this means is that if you had an average home in Fairbanks and powered nothing but your phantom loads your monthly fee would be $7.70 + $15.00 which would total $22.70 per month. Yearly this would come out to $272.40 to pay for only phantom loads and your montly customer charge.

good analysis, graph was the right way to show the economic response curve! The four inch eps wall should have come out around R31 though--your results will be even better for the money I'll bet. I think you knew that already though.

I really feel the time this was set for was wrong for the working people. Most of us don't get off until 5 pm and then have families to attend to ,even though we would have liked to have been here for this; as we are all effected by this energy issue. I really wish this meeting would have been set up for a more convenient time.

PLEASE INFORM ME AS SOON AS ALL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE, CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY FUEL, USING ELECTRICITY
WHICH IS REALLY REALLY EXPENSIVE.

HAVING NEW WINDOWS WOULD PROBABLY MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN MY
ENERGY COSTS.

PLEASE E-MAIL ME ON WHEN AND WHERE TO APPLY FOR SOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE.
