I regret that AHFC did not submit a correction about this article sooner. Instead of the 200 participants cited, a total of 3,339 Alaskans have completed upgrades to their homes or built new 5*+ homes and received rebates under the Home Energy Rebate Program. The 18-month deadline to complete the work began expiring in November, and 70 percent of the initial applicants participated by completing work on their homes and applying for a rebate.

Currently, the program's funds are encumbered. Nearly 17,000 homeowners have had their initial energy rating, and AHFC has set aside enough funds to cover any rebates for which they may qualify. As the 18-month deadlines pass for each homeowner, any unused funds will roll back into the program, and AHFC will again dispatch raters to additional homeowners currently on the waitlist.

I have been reading your Blog and have great respect for your views on efficient boilers. The experience of reading your blog has been enjoyable and informative at the same time and I hope that your posts continue!
I am a great believer in saving energy and where better a place to start then your own home. I have even started my own UK business recently selling energy efficient boiler management systems (the majority of a households Co2 emissions come from the boiler) to the domestic market citing reduced Co2 and cash saving in energy bills as the incentive to buy. I am currently finding my feet in my new business very tough and was hoping that your will help raise awareness of the consumer products that are out there that can help any home become more energy efficient.

This report is so vague and misleading. Exactly what size motorcycle engine are you talking about? I'm sure there's a huge difference between a 1400cc Harley and 500cc Honda. Okay, so the motorcycle is a bigger pollutant, but you're still consuming less oil which adds up to fewer wars, fewer dollars going to oppressive dictators in the Middle East, and also with a higher probability of dying in a motorcycle wreck, your carbon footprint dies with you, so that's a good thing.

When will the curriculum, the list of classes for this certificate be known? And where will be the first place a person can look at it? I think a program like this is great.

For those who may be interested in learning more - the company that Green Star partners with for recycling electronics is Total Reclaim, Inc: http://www.totalreclaim.com

Also, check out the Basel Action Network website - this organization certifies electronics recyclers who do so responsibly: http://www.ban.org/

“BAN works to prevent the globalization of the toxic chemical crisis. We work in opposition to toxic trade in toxic wastes, toxic products and toxic technologies, that are exported from rich to poorer countries. Alternatively, we work to ensure national self-sufficiency in waste management through clean production and toxics use reductions”

I have read that 6% to 10% of U.S. home energy usage is simply running there clothes dryers. What a simple and sustainable thing it would be to air dry all of our clothes using either a clothes drying rack or a clothes line.
